Modern Wicca started in England in 1939 in the wake of Gerald Gardener’s initiation by Dorothy Clutterbuck also known as Old Dorothy, into a traditional British coven. He wrote books about the beliefs of British Wiccans and their practices because he feared the religion was going to fade out. Although Gerald broke the coven’s seal of secrecy, many soon converted to Wicca.
Many disagree the fact that Wicca is the old religion not the new religion. Some think Wicca had its place during the Ice Age, while others disagree, believing it is a 20th century neo-pagan faith.
I believe that Wicca is probably both. Wiccan Witches are the shamans and healers in the world today who practice the old ways. Witches still follow sacred magic from the ancient art.
Witchcraft has evolved with time. Many people still can’t accept that witchcraft has its place in society and should not be perceived as an evil entity. Since the Burning Times, Witches are now open with their chosen path. Witches don’t offer blood sacrifices either, animal or human, anymore for use with their spells. Wiccans love and respect all living beings and honor them.
Witchcraft is becoming more popular. Look at my Underground Witchcraft Secrets where you can get access to White Witch Arabella Jolie.
Each Wiccan is a witch, but each witch is not Wiccan. To honor the Goddess, Wiccan witches use their personal circumstances with their abilities and talents to do this. By abiding to the Wiccan Rede, all Wiccans are able to decide how to conduct themselves.
Wiccans are able to accept all diversities of people and while Wicca is an Earth religion, we see all children to be of the same Mother. Different race, religious heritage, sexual preference, sex or class are not important to Wiccans.
Wiccans are not answerable to any supreme leader or organization. We don’t have churches as such, only natural places to worship, whether it is secluded area, a riverside, a mountain, it really does not matter. Wicca is a group of witches who practice their beliefs with ritual. Wiccans do not dictate to their offspring to follow or practice Wicca and leave the decision up to them so they can make an informed choice when they are old enough. When a child is born to Wiccan parents, the child is not Wiccan but can choose to be.
There is no dress code in Wicca but many wear a pentacle, mainly believing its power of protection. Wiccans choose their own lifestyle and there is no restriction on food. Some eat meat, while others don’t. Wicca is becoming a worldwide faith. Wiccans never lead people to believe the Wiccan way. We never knock on doors or ask for money.
Wicca is a belief, a way of life, an organic religion which celebrates Mother Nature.
Starting the Wiccan way of life is easy and joyful. If you have the belief, abide by The Wiccan Rede, and more importantly accept the Great Goddess into your life. Only then will you be ready to perform real magic.
There is a poem where the Wiccan Rede is derived from. You will come accross many differing copies which have changed over the years after being handed down through generations of families but all have the same guidelines. This particular one is written by the late Lady Gwen Thompson in 1975, saying this version was handed down by her grandmother who passed away in 1946, she was in her nineties when she died.

Rede of the Wiccae
Bide the Wiccan laws ye must in perfect love an’ perfect trust.
Live ‘an let live – fairly take an’ fairly give.
Cast the Circle thrice about to keep all the spirits out
To bind the spell every time, let the spell be spake in rhyme.
Soft of eye an’ light of touch – speak little, listen much.
Deosil go by the waxing moon – sing an’ dance the Wiccan rune.
Widdershins go when the Moon doth wane, an’ the Werewolf howls by the dread Wolfsbane.
When the Lady’s Moon is new, kiss the hand to her times two.
When the Moon rides at her peak, then your heart’s desire seek.
Head the Northwind’s mighty gale – lock the door and drop the sail.
When the wind comes from the South, love will kiss thee on the mouth.
When the wind blows from the East, expect the new and set the feast.
When the West wind blows o’er thee, departed spirits restless be.
Nine woods in the Cauldron go – burn them quick an’ burn them slow.
Elder be ye Lady’s tree – burn it not or cursed ye’ll be.
When the Wheel begins to turn – let the Beltane fires burn.
When the Wheel has turned a Yule, light the Log an’ let Pan rule.
Heed ye flower, bush an’ tree – by the Lady blessed be.
Where the rippling waters go, cast a stone an’ truth ye’ll know.
When we have need, hearken not to other’s greed.
With the fool no season spend or be counted as his friend.
Merry meet an’ merry part – bright these cheeks an’ warm the heart.
Mind the Threefold Law ye should – three times bad an’ three times good.
When misfortune is enow, wear the blue star on my brow.
True in love ever be unless thy lover’s false to thee.
Eight words the Wiccan Rede fulfill – an’ it harm none, do what ye will.
